Discovery MS research is focused on identifying and understanding the critical elements of MS so that people with the disease can live fuller, more active lives with less debilitating symptoms. To do this, we are concentrating on:
Understanding the Origins of MS. By studying the genetic variants that are associated with increased risk for MS, we can further our understanding of its complex origins. Understanding the origins is the first step toward developing strategies for prevention.
Expanding the Medical Tool Kit. Clinicians desperately need better tools to diagnosis and manage MS. We are still lacking drugs that are effective for all MS patients, drugs with fewer side-effects, and drugs that don’t just slow the disease but actually reverse it by promoting remyelination. That is why we have studies focused on improving diagnosis, prediction of disease progression, and assessment of treatment efficacy, as well as studies focused on drug development.
